Bonjour...Gashi...Hola!
As you read this, I am preparing for a week's vacation, destination top secret. Fun, sand and surf are on the agenda and anything having to do with work will be shut out until I return (if I return...). Not that I consider these writings work, but where I'm going the only writing I'll be doing will be signing my bar bills to my hotel room. Therefore, there will be no posting from me next week. Sad, I know. But instead of missing a week, I thought it would be fun to offer you the chance to contribute something for the week of May 2nd. It can be about anything you like...entertainment, politics, religion...the return of Origami...whatever you feel the need to put out there. Just send me an email by Friday, April 29th at jb@jbspeaks.com and the submission my panel of experts (which is me, myself and I) finds the most intriguing will be posted for next week. Of course, you will remain anonymous and only you and I will know the truth (I swear!). The winner will receive a special token taken from the jungles of my exotic vacation (providing I don't get taken into the jungle myself and left for dead).
So take a break from the daily grind and get creative!!

A week’s vacation, destination top secret.
Whatever could this mean? What could the reasons be?
If we have learned anything from Alias, it could mean a quick jaunt to the heart of Red China to impersonate the heiress to the Ming Dynasty in order to get in to the secret laboratory and steal the vial of magic potion number 9 before the wicked men from Rio de Janeiro get what turns out is the final ingredient necessary in the toxin for world destruction (and, oh yeah, if anyone asks, she’s in Portland doing due diligence for the bank on a possible investment).
Or … if we have learned anything from Everwood, she could be off to find the child she never even knew she had because her father paid her boyfriend to never ever tell her that there even was a child (what child?). But don’t tell Dad, cause she’s not talking to him (can you blame her?).
We (that’s the royal we, of course) wonder, is it really the destination that is secret? Is it a matter of national security? Has Condeleeza been briefed? (What would Colin do?) Perhaps the vacation is really just a dire attempt to avoid having to testify at the Congressional hearings into MLB steroid use (are those still going on? I stopped paying attention weeks ago – but let’s not dwell on the past).
Whatever the reason, we can only say Bon voyage ! Gute Reise ! Yi lu shun Feng! God rejse!
Be good. And come back safe, from wherever it is.
